motivation for the blog

I am a work in progress and with each tiny victory, I am picking up lessons and crafting strategies for winning in life. As a descendant, granddaughter, and daughter of griots and educators, I am compelled to share these lessons and strategies. For the past few years, I’ve been casually sharing, mentoring, coaching, and doing a few speaking engagements on my life lessons.   More and more people have been asking if I have a website, podcast, or book with my ideas, tips, tricks, and advice, which is the reason for launching this blog.

home life

My household is a CRAZY and CHAOTIC mix of LOVE, LAUGHTER, and PERSONALITY. It’s usually bubbling over with energy from my husband and my two rambunctious sons (aka The Rowdies). Everyday in my house is fodder for my greatest life lessons and strategies.  For a while after having my second son, I felt like I’d been dropped on the island in Lord of the Flies. I had to pull from some very innate and primal survival tactics.  Nowadays, I’m figuring out how to do more than just survive, I’m learning to THRIVE. This blog is a place to capture my best ideas, tools, and tips on how to do just that…THRIVE. All-in-all, I am truly blessed and honored to have  three wonderful, intelligent, energetic gentlemen to call my family.

day job

I currently work as the Director of Learning, helping to improve business outcomes through people focused training and development. I believe my primary job as a leader and learning professional is to make work easier. I do that by providing friction-less learning solutions that help people build the knowledge, skills and confidence to be successful.

formal education and experience

I earned a Master’s of Science in Instructional Technology from Georgia State University where I was named Outstanding Masters Student in 2011. Prior to pursuing a master’s degree, I formed Unique Instincts, a web design and graphic design company. Unique Instincts provided a variety of solutions to small businesses, from eCommerce websites to business card designs.  I shut down the business to focus on grad school, but I still own the domain because I think it’s a cool name.

Before Unique Instincts, I worked as a consultant with Accenture supporting Retail clients. I joined Accenture just after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Spelman College. I am so grateful for my years at Spelman for many reasons, but mostly for the exceptional education I received and everlasting sisterhood I have with Spelman women world wide. Both are invaluable to me.

labors of love

One of my personal missions in life is to GIVE MORE THAN I TAKE FROM THE WORLD. I have received an abundance of gifts in my life thus far. My most cherished gifts are my education and the opportunity to discover and pursue my purpose. These gifts are a result of the work, kindness, and love of countless people, some I know and some I don’t. For that reason, I feel compelled to share the spoils of my good fortune through volunteer work. Here are some of the organizations I support and serve:

The Home Depot Foundation

Atlanta Community Food Bank

Atlanta Partners for Education
